Little Karoo Ltd was established in 1996 by John and Gillian Millward. We started out as a small business focussed on ostrich farming and meat supply, with the interest in exotic meats beginning to grow in the New Zealand restaurant scene. This lead us to expand into a wider range of exotic and game meats.

During those early days, a chance meeting with chef Charles Royal led to the introduction of Indigenous products to the range, followed closely by other products from small artisan producers across the country.
For 20 years we have worked with Charles and helped develop his business and the KINAKI brand to showcase New Zealand ingredients. Charles was likely the initiator of foraging for unique New Zealand ingredients in the country. Today foraging has exploded world wide and in New Zealand, with foragers supplying chefs throughout NZ. 
As interest in the wider range of uniquely NZ products continued to grow in the restaurant scene, we developed Great Taste NZ as a NZ Artisan Banner to consolidate and showcase product in local and International markets. Today, under the Great Taste NZ banner, a cluster of the best artisan producers work closely with Little Karoo, as their Ambassador in the Hospitality and Retail market. We collaborate with a number of top hotels, restaurants, chefs and caterers to supply them with top quality New Zealand and international artisanal products and ingredients.
